Human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings, mainly for the purpose of commercial sexual exploitation and forced labor. As the world’s fastest growing criminal industry, it affects every nation across the globe. Every thirty seconds, someone is forced into modern-day slavery.

Set Free Durham is a new initiative born out of a desire to educate and bring awareness to the alarming growth of human trafficking in Durham Region. To date, members of 15 churches in Durham Region have come together to unite and take a stand against human trafficking in our area.

To end modern day slavery in Durham Region and create new futures. We proclaim a hopeful and just alternative to slavery, and engage in smart, effective, sustainable and collaborative action toward raising awareness, prevention, protection and restoration.

Since December 7th, WFMC has held a prayer time each Monday morning in the sanctuary from 8:30 to 9:00am for the issue of human trafficking. Each week the prayers get stronger and to date, up to five people have been in attendance with one prayer warrior joining us from her home. We can sense God working through our prayers and are encouraged week by week. Please join us in person if you feel led, or from home if you are able, to pray for all involved in human trafficking in Durham Region, especially for the victims and the vulnerable.
